What you should know about Hilltop Accommodation Catlins
Couldn’t have imagined a better store to be our home bottom while we experience the catkins A Lander, Dunedin. The Shanks Bush Reserve interpretation area is at the Tahakopa Valley road intersection. Look out for the blue reflective Accommodation sign at the Tahakopa Valley Road intersection just 300 meres south of the Tahakopa River bridge and 150 mere north of the Papatowai Store. Other local activities include watching the penguins, seals and sea lions, as healthy as surfing, tramping cycling and fishing,white baiting and gathering papa. Hilltop Accommodation is located at Papatowai, in the catkins, on the Southern Scenic Route. The Hilltop story really began around 1880 when Murdoch and Mary McLennan and their eight children unchanging in the Tahakopa Valley.
He transported the previous Te Ana schoolhouse by truck to his farm, and five years later also moved the century old coal miners cottage from Kaitangata, imminent Balclutha. The Top House features two double rooms, one triple and a twin, plus two bathrooms. A pretty place to stay, and awesome southern hospitality Greg Barbara, Hamilton. A grandfather of two of the donate owners, Henry Evans, grew up in nearby Tahakopa in the early 1900’s, where he went to school and worked at a local sawmill with his father.
We support the principles of Sustainable Tourism South and the catkins Concern Code, and are taking steps towards sustainability, for instance by providing recycling and composting facilities, encouraging energy conservation, and using renewable firewood for heating. The local Papatowai store offers takeaways, fuel, groceries, wine and beer and closes at 6 pm 7pm in summer. Later he married and raised a family of nine children, while busy down the road at a sawmill at Niagara imminent Waikawa. Hilltop Accommodation is nestled alongside native forest on a sheep and beef farm, overlooking the tiny seaside community of Papatowai, in the heart of the catkins.
We are your ideal holiday bottom in the heart of the catkins, halfway between Dunedin and Invercargill. Hilltop catkins is now run by a team of family and local duty managers who feel the need to keep and enhance this particular lodge for our guests. The drive south along the Southern Scenic Route passes through Papatowai the much photographed Florence Hill panorama of Tautuku beach and peninsula, Lake Willie, the historic trails Tractor historic walk the Cathedral Caves and McLean Falls, earlier winding down through native forest to Niagara, Waikawa and the Curio Bay petrified forest
